Karin Carlson, MOUS
Software Trainer, Computer Consultant
Karin is a Computer Professional (Web Designer, Database Developer, Desktop Publisher, etc.) and MOUS Certified Software Instructor. She works with and teaches both PC (Windows) and Macintosh software, primarily Adobe and Microsoft software.
Her students appreciate her practical software advice, gleaned from using software in “real-world” situations as a computer professional since 1987. As well she has had positions as a software trainer, an assistant editor and magazine columnist, a desktop publisher, website developer, and many contract situations which involved writing manuals/SOPs and training staff.
Professional Experience
- Classroom and private instructor since 1989.
- Contracted computer administrative assistant from 1986 to 2000.
- Contracted computer professional and trainer since 2000.
- Currently a contract trainer in Winnipeg, Manitoba for Nexient Learning, ctc Train Canada, 2000 Plus Personalized Computer Training, and several Private Students and Companies.
- Web authoring (HTML/CSS - Cascading Style Sheets): Using standards-compliant website development techniques and best practices. Also working in Joomla! open-source CMS (Content Management System) sites. She has designed the following websites:
- Desktop publishing (MS Word, InDesign, FrameMaker) specializing in long documents, papers intended for print or on-line PDF publication, and manuals, all utilizing proper “automated” desktop publishing techniques such as styles, endnotes and other coding, PDF web publication with links and bookmarks, etc.
- Database creation, fixing and re-creation (Microsoft Access and FileMaker), focusing on clean design and stability, ease of use, ease of updating and future expansion.
